Fischer snags victory…South African bodyboarder Wes Fischer has won the Number 6 Brett Young Trials with a flawless display of riding in clean 3-4 feet waves at Cronulla point. He was humble in his victory speech but out in the water showed the other side of his personality with a tradesman like approach to the final.

“Thanks to God, my girlfriend and my sponsors” said Fischer. “Happy to win but the job is not finished yet, its just beginning”.

Second position went to Queenslands Mitch Rawlins with Newcastle’s Ben Gohl third and Jonathan Vega from Canary Islands fourth.

THE GRIZMIESTER LANDS AN ISLAND WILDCARD

Nomad FSD team rider Chris James has been handed a wildcard entry into the prestigious Shark Island Challenge! Big Griz has built a solid reputation as one of Australia’s leading big wave free surfers and this caps off an extraordinary 12 months for him. Following on from last years breakthrough ROAM project, Chris then spent “40 days travelling around the World”, taking in the Philippines, Ireland, San Diego Wave house, and Mexico. Recently Chris received severe bruising to his ribs and elbow after boosting his large rig at his local and smashing into dry reef, but has bounced back and got his mind set for surfing massive kegs in Victoria last week. DROPPING INTO MANTA HQ.

W.A.’s Brendon Backshall has been over at Manta HQ working on his new rides and is stoked with the way his new stock boards are looking.
“I am so happy with the look and feel of my new boards. Reon (Manta shaper) and I worked on getting a nice clean template for all conditions and it has been working great.” Brendon timed his trip to the East Coast well and has been scoring all over the South Coast, linking up with video lens man Todd Barnes for his upcoming feature film “Thrash”.

Cronulla’s Johnny Showell is also amping on his new boards. “I have been training hard for this year’s Shark Island contest and with the new CCT core in my boards, it works great for flex and speed out the Island. Fingers crossed we get a good swell during the waiting period.”

Tommy Smith, fresh back from a trip to South Oz with 2x World Champ Damian King, is determined on qualifying for this years Shark Island contest. “Everything feels right at the moment. My boards and equipment are working well, I feel fit and like my surfing is at the top of it’s game.” With determination like this and the skill level of Tommy’s riding, he is a near certainty to qualify.

The Liberteen Ranch is hosting another debaucherous evening in late june - and being the third round for the swish event, it looks like its staying put as a regular gig on the calendar.

This party is going to be pretty similar to the others in the whole art/music aspect. However, but it is also going to be the EP launch party for Sydney Band Amy Meredith, supported by Toecutter and CSK OK - as well as a number of other DJ's.

SCIENCE JOINS FORCES WITH TOM WEGENER FOR THE MS ALAIA MODEL

SIX DEGREES OF SEP. FROM THE CONCHORDS

If you've been conscious in the last year you've probably heard of the Flight of the Conchords (above, two Kiwi dudes, guitar tracks, HBO show, five million hits on youtube etc..). We were hitting some pong in the new studio (Studio 205/ 19A Boundary Rd, Rushcutters Bay NSW 2011) when a member of staff revealed his connection to the duo. Basically his lady dated an air guitarist, 'Bjorn Torock' who whilst they lived in NY, kicked it with the Conchords. Now this may not be that fascinating in hindsight, but it filled a couple of lines and gave us an excuse to drop these clips. Check the show on channel Ten tonight (Sunday) after Rove.
