NEW ELIT' BOARDS
28.4.08

If you've scored the latest issue you'll notice a blank white ad on the back from a new label Elit'. They were also online at our site awhile back scouring for riders and now they've dropped some crisp product. We haven't ridden them, but damn don't they look tight?

Keep an eye out for a full review on all the best brands in issue 24. We'll be taking the dopest underground guys we can find with the best boards of the 08/09 season and riding the shit out of them so you know how they perform. It won't just be pretty pictures on a white background, but the real deal on how they ride.

Sorry for the sales-pitch on 24 blog readers. That was a bit 'Crazy Johns' for us.

NEW WEB STUFF COMING, SO HOLD YOUR FRICKEN HORSES PEOPLE

You may have noticed from our MySpace that Movement 23 is out. If you ever moved anything, you'll have some compassion for a few young twats that are trying to move their whole office over the next couple of weeks. Hence the three-day-delay on the web-gear. Be patient, it will come and it will be worthwhile. Trust us... Here is the Michael Novy/ Ben de Camp cover to keep you moist in the meantime.

THE FRENCH CONNECTION MELLOW OUT ON THE SOUTH COAST
22.4.08

Backlight from tramber on Vimeo.

The French connection, Matt Desaphie sent this short movie of his friends down under. It's actually a little film, so it’s best to start loading it, make a cuppa and come back to view. Shot well to some nice earthy beats it'll bring that heart rate down to an unnaturally slow pace. For an Aussie it's cool to see how overseas folk view our fine land. Strangely, from what we can work out (it’s all in French) they especially dig the cheap, styled-out servo sunnies.

HARDCORE BLOG

One of our bros (Joel Birch) runs Death Before Dishonour mag, a truly righteous read if you're into Hardcore music. Joel and his boys are also manning a cool blog that you can check out at:

Make sure you scroll down and check out the rad Japan shots.

TWO TIMES... CRAPPY, BACKLIT PHOTO BOOTH IMAGES
18.4.08

Keith Laub is the man with the black eye above. He scored this bruiser from a thug in QLD who wasn't happy that Keith was tuning his ex. We're not about to defend Keith and the Plastic Peeps though, you can be sure they were getting pretty damn loose and shit like that happens when you're partying real hard. We've have heard a heap of stories from our QLD brothers about dudes throwing their dukes like it's some kind of weekend passtime. Remember, peace still works.

Next up is our work experience kid for the week Sammy McDonald, he's been a good kid. A little smart for our liking but you gotta pay him respect for giving lip to the old mag-men. He's all the way from Cabaritta, which is just south of the QLD border. Big-ups for using his school holidays to get some time in his favourite mag (that's what he says anyway).

TBC RESULTS
16.4.08

Tamarama Bodyboard Club comp #3 went down last Sunday. Freaking sweet conditions alright - three feet of stacked lines, lefts grinding down the beach - the tide was right, the moon was right, Simon Fisher running a tight ship, the vibe: mellow. A joint 21st and 22nd the night before resulted in a fair few inebriated folk keeping everyone entertained, both in an out of the water. Check the photos attached, all by Nick Sheffield.

A Division:
1. Phin Gibson
2. Cameron danzey
3. Nick Bannehr.

AA Division:
1. Alex Bunting
2. Asha Dolman
3. Lucien Alperstein

Sam Taucher scored the highest single wave in the A division, landing himself a Little Gourmet Pizza, as did Alex Bunting in the AAs, with a barrel to backflip.

As always, we thank those who give us support, stuff and other good things: Little Gourmet Pizza, Surf Culture, Movement, Thurlow Fisher Solicitors, the little Monopoly Man with his thick moustache, the constellation Orion and Roget's Thesaurus.

Next comp is on the eleventh of May, 7am. You're only cheating yourself.

THE RHEOPAIPO QLD PRO

The Rheopaipo Pro was blessed with some awesome conditions and the final day D-Bah served up it’s trademark slabbing peaks for the sports best to put on a great show.

Leading into the finals the action peaked with an amazing round 4 clash between Mitch Rawlins, Dave Crowley, Peter Norman and Joe Clarke.
The level of competitive Bodyboarding was raised significantly as each rider locked in score after score to notch their names in the history books as the highest scoring heat in BBA history with Crowley missing out in third with a 9.0 and an 8.9. The Pro Women’s division also had a world class field with international rider Eunate Agirre (Spain) and Paola Simao (Brazil) outclassed by the Aussies.

Former World champs Kira Llewellyn and Steph Pettersen used all their competitive skills to surf their way into the final and take on Lilly Pollard and Mandy Zeiran.
In the end Kira proved too strong and pushed Lilly to second with Mandy third and Steph fourth. In the Pro DK division Gary Thatcher made a welcome return to competition with a win over fellow Queenslanders Dane Pope, Lucas Winfield and Nathan Luton – Korber. The QAB round was also a great success with around 80 of the best amateurs in the state all vying for valuable points towards the Nationals team at Port Macquarie in September.

In the end all agreed that it was a great contest and the venue lends itself to a much bigger and more lucrative event in 2009

A Big thanks go out to Rheopaipo for their support of the Queensland event and the reintroduction of the brand in 2008 should be huge - make sure to check out your local stockist for the range..

We’d also like to thank Bodyboarders Surf Co, the QAB, Kirra Beach hotel for their loyal support.

Next stop – Rheopaipo Newcastle Pro. This event starts on Thursday this week.

O+E FLOWRIDER FIESTA
14.4.08

Once again, the fluid style and dynamic combination from the reigning title holder Jake Stone (QLD) helped him take the crown at Australia’s only flow rider Bodyboard competition at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast!. The creative manoeuvres from the Flowrider locals and big moves from IBA World tour heavyweights Mick Chapple (NSW) & Mitch Rawlins (WA) were not enough to top Jake’s awesome ability on the stationary wave. With a mixed bag of clean traditional bodyboarding moves and a creative sprinkling of moves like the ‘crocodile roll’ and the ‘superman’, it’s pretty fair to say Jake is one of the most controlled and exciting riders to watch on the Flowrider. “I havent been on it since last year, but we had a go overseas on a barrelling one a few months back, an i was super keen to get on it again, its so fun.”
Jake has had a huge season in Hawaii and after success at the Flowrider he is in good form to take on the countries best as this is the first Event on the HUMAN Pro Tour for 2008.

The day’s action started from 5pm at the Flowrider after an intense warm up session. Many seasoned competitors were quickly getting a sharp reality check as the dynamics of the stationary wave vary from the ocean. The divisions in play were an open mens, an open womens and a dropknee division. As we continued through the early repercharge rounds, competitors new to the Flowrider found their form and some competition for the locals started to arrive.

Onto the Semi-finals and the heavens decided to open up and we found the Ocean & Earth tents very handy!. It might of started raining, but the water was starting to get thrown in buckets. Competitors like Clinton Clark (QLD) and Meegan Humphries (QLD) throwing spray into the crowd!.

As we came around to the Dropknee Final, it was three local boys who had basically owned the division and one traditional rider Glenn Sullivan (NSW) representing the ocean surfers!. After a hectic battle, it was Clinton Clark (QLD) and his huge mental entry/front flip combos that took the glory followed by Stephen Townsend (QLD), Glen Sullivan (NSW) & Ben Ribes (QLD)

The ladies then hit the water for a mixed battle, with early form holders Kira Llewellyn (QLD) (last years champion) and WA’s Lauren Williams unable to find a good score with unexpected falters in their attack. It left the game wide open as Stephanie Pettersen (QLD) (former world champion) who went score for score with the local favourite Meegan Humphries (QLD). It was a close battle but Megan’s huge powerful moves and her always classic ‘Super Girl’ signature move a hit with the judges.
After two awesome finals, it was time for the open men to hit it. With every rider bringing huge entry aerials and solid smooth linked combination maneuvers, it was all down to finesse! The calculation of attack was exciting to see as the flowrider is not very forgiving to any ‘defective’ edgy turns or actions. It was a suprise to see NSW’s Troy Kneeves so smooth and calculated without too much practice, but in the final Troy caught a few snags and couldnt fully complete a solid three runs, coming in Fourth. Coming in third, NSW’s Mike Parsons was like the ‘most improved’ rider on the stationary, as at the start of the day, he couldn’t link a few turns too well, but by the end he was shredding. The real treat of the night was seeing Mitch Rawlins (WA) and Jake Stone (QLD) go blow for blow with smooth turn followed by solid carve followed by forward spin, followed by carve. It was really down to Jake pulling off a few extra combinations and a wider creative repertoire of moves that snagged him the win.

We’d like to thank Ocean & Earth for helping us put on this event and also Inverted Bodyboarding Stores for the support. It’s been a blast to kick off the tour with such a fun event under lights with the crowd and the cameras!...
Today is the Start of the second event of the Pro Tour - the Rheopaipo Queensland Pro and Queensland State Round 1.

PLASTIC PEOPLE TOUR UPDATE - SAVOJI NOW IN OZ
9.4.08

The Plastic People are in town, flinging past the Movement office last week when they touched down from their United flight from NY. Young Savoji cracked his bottle of red a little early for us, we indulged in a swig to make things a little less awkward, but to be honest our hearts weren't really in it. Anyway, they've been driving up the east coast in an Econovan getting waves and getting loose, this shot of Savoji snapped when he was visiting Garth at one of his mates houses. Check the nicotine stained walls, uuuhahhhhaghg (dry reach sound). We've got Dre on a illustration project and our NYC photog man Keith Laub documenting the mayhem for us. Should be a treat for a future issue.

LIBERTEEN PARTY

They are throwing another club night jam packed with some sweet indi bands and more cool art than you can throw devil horns at. Come and rock out with their teamriders at Castros Nightclub on Sat 19th of April. Send a message to http://www.myspace.com/liberteenranch to get your name on the $10 door list or buy a ticket from Redback music in Wollongong. See you there.

Our latest recruit is carrying the torch for the future of the sport. Tom Rigby is a man who at age 15 has already received his own signature model with Science bodyboards, spent a Hawaiian winter season with Mike Stewart (where he absolutely killed it) and picked up a sponsorship with cutting edge fashion label Iamnone. Now the young man joins the biggest family in bodyboarding and we’re thrilled to bits to see what the future holds for Tom and BSC!

SPIDER, FLY AND A NICE GRANNY
1.4.08

Triple J, our favourite radio station (overseas people can listen in via their site: www.abc.net.au/triplej/) are hosting a competition for 60 second films. Our buddies entered, thinking it would be cool to try and explain the existence of humans with a rug and a couple of insects in that short amount of time.

They're our friends after-all.
