WBA EVENT ONE: CRONULLA: RESULTS
Women’s Bodyboarding Australia successfully held it first contest for the year at Elouera Beach, Cronulla. The competitors where greeted with clean 1-2 foot conditions and were soon out there after the membership sign up. First up, Women’s World Tour competitor Lilly Pollard and some of the more experienced riders took the younger girls through a quick coaching clinic and then it was into the competition.
The first division to be run was the ‘A’ and was stacked full of fresh young blood. With some of the older girls in the water to encourage them on, the A’s enthusiastically took on the conditions with Taylor Jackson (Brad Jackson’s little cousin) eventually taking the win by catching the biggest sets to come through. For her efforts Taylor took home a Manta Mist Bodyboard. One of these boards will be up for grabs at every WBA competition.
Next, the AA division was a tight affair with Paige Gregory, Beth Gibson and Cronulla local Monique Farmer showing early form. Unfortunately, Paige was nudged out in a tight semi-final that saw Beth and Monique advance to the final—to be joined by Zoe Edwards and Jodi Bruce. Jodie, who normally surfs stand up, proved to be the surprise packet of the comp busting out great spin-roll combos and nailing the win with a huge roll.
The AAA division also had a great turnout and was filled to the brim with competitors from the Australasian Professional Tour. Eventually Lilly Pollard was victorious narrowly beating Kaitlin Murphy on a countback, with Nicole Fleming third and Lauren Knowles fourth.
Overall it was a great day filled with fun including a drop-knee expression session where Emma Roby was the stand out. Aside from the action in the water we also had games on the beach including a flipper race which saw grommet Jayda Sharpe take home a pair of Manta Propel Fins.
Women’s Bodyboarding Australia would like to thank Turbo Surf Designs, Manta Bodyboards, Wing Wetsuits, Bodyboarders Surf Co, Endless, Sundowner Tourist Parks, Bakers Delight, Cronulla Cinemas and the Farmer family for all their support.
Women’s Bodyboarding Australia’s next competition will be held on Friday the 18th of April at Box Beach, Nelson Bay. The 18th is a layday for the girls competing in the Newcastle event of the Australasian Professional Tour and NSW state titles to be held between the 17th and 20th of April. DKS has released event details and dates for this years contests. On the back of the successful TIONA PARK event in Forster, DKS has decided to continue with this event again in 08. Known as the "Chill Out" event it has one of the best contest sites on the coast with the whole park surrounded by nothing but the famous "Bulls Paddock" on one side and the "Wallis Lake" on the other.
The premier event, DKS PORT MAC, will again be the draw card event with the inclusion of a special guest this year, none other than hawaiian legend KAINOA MCGEE! Everyone will want to be a part of this event so make sure you get your entries in as soon as they hit www.dksessions.com

Twenty-three-year-old bodyboarder Joshua Kalai Nakata, who by all accounts loved the ocean as much as he loved life, died Sunday after he apparently struck his head on the reef at the Banzai Pipeline on the North Shore.

It's Monday and Monday sucks. We get more hits on Monday than any other day. Why? Cause people are at work/school/college/whatever and hating it. So maybe we can post some funny shit every Monday from now, brighten a few woeful heads. The above post is from a show in the US we've never seen, that doesn't really matter though so check it out.
After seeing all those famous heads on that clip, it got us thinking about the job of a Producer, these are the people that make these ideas happen. Among other things like actually booking that studio, they get on the phone to the agents of Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Robin Williams etc.. and pitch the idea and somehow hook these people into the recording studio for the day.
It reminded us of our favourite comic, Ricky Gervais Writer/Actor/Producer of The Office and Extras. In the clip below you see the reality of being a Producer and that getting aforementioned celebs ain't that easy.

It's direction has always been to show the real culture of the youth, a culture that includes drugs, partying, fashion, homo-erotica and a bunch of other taboo shit other mags fear to tread on. Sure sometimes you feel like you've contacted HIV after a flick, but that's the reality of the streets kid. A new project of Vice is VBS.TV which tackles these same genre of topics with a documentary style, web-streamed TV show. Thomas Campbell, creator of Sprout is an MS fan and has produced a little show for their Hi-Shredibility section. Let us just work out what that is........that's $125 which is pretty good. Like a night out with a girl (super-hot for that much cash), case of beer for the boys, ticket to QLD to chase a cyclone swell. It's $1250 if you punch in 0.5 to the calculator, you need to put in $2500 x 0.05 to get 5% off though, which is heaps less really. Ebay only take like 0.05% or something but they have the volume of sales though so it works out over the longer term. For that you'd need to punch in like $2500 x 0.005, just in case you were wondering.
