SMOKE N' A PANCAKE TWO
29.2.08

So a little while back we showed you that there is ACTUALLY Dutch bodyboarders and that they ACTUALLY have websites with forums and the like. Through the information super-highway that is the web, it turns out these guys are also avid movementmag.com readers and sent through some links of their surf. Thankfully they took the smoke n' a pancake jibe pretty well and mentioned they actually don't mind either when the occasion strikes. Check some Dutch surf on the flickr links below:

PAULO TAKES COVETED PIPE TITLE
26.2.08

Viva Brazil!! Barcellos the Champion…

Report: Terry McKenna IBA Media (www.ibatour.com)

Event: The 2008 IBA International Pipeline Pro // Sponsors: Bodyglove Bodyboards, Pride and NMD // USBA Drop Knee Pro: LMNOP Bodyboards

The final day of the IBA Pipeline Pro went down with so many twists and turns that it would make any water sport stand at attention.

With an on sight crowd of 2,000 and 18,000 unique web- cast viewers the IBA top 32 riders went for broke for the entire day!

The Surf conditions started the day with light winds and a 6-8 ft WNW Hawaiian size swell. The early rounds saw major action with David Crowley (AUS) progressing to the quarterfinals all the way from the trails.

One of the biggest stories of the day was Pierre Costes (FRN) who was injured during his round 8 win over Mike Stewart (HI) & Damien King (AUS) as he progressed with Darren Halse (ZAF) into the quarters .

Pierre who is just coming off a fractured patella in his knee was hurt going backdoor during this heat, landing on his back leaving him almost enable to walk up the beach. He was assisted to the beach to rest and lick his wounds. Later he opted to continue to compete and was able to win his Quarter final heat only to be stopped in the Semi finals coming in early in pain from his fairly server injuries.

Heading into the semis there were big upsets and big performances. Hugo Pinheiro (Port) was able to take out Pierre and Ben Player who was having a great competition early in the day with numerous backdoor barrels. Also moving through the first semi final was Brazil's Paulo Bacellos who had been surfing solid all day!

In the next semi final it was a dominant Jeff Hubbard leading the pack with the first 10 point ride of the day, consisting of a double barrel to ARS. Following suit was Uri Valadao who was able to edge out his countryman Guilherme Tamega with a tie breaker going to the their third best wave.

The final was an all out battle with blows coming from all riders. Jeff Hubbard sent a warning shot with a huge ars at backdoor, followed by Uri Valadao throwing almost the exact same maneuver just after. Paulo Barcellos through caution to the wind with a massive roll on a close out section at backdoor showing true commitment to the judges. Jeff answered back with a big invert again at backdoor. Hugo Pinheiro choose to stick to Pipe in the final and with Paulo Barcellos picking off the best Pipe barrels of the heat, leaving Hugo with not much to choose from.

In the end it was Paulo who took out the talented field with Jeff Hubbard just behind him.

An amazing crowd filled with Brazilian/Paulo supporters attacked him before the official beach byte scores where released. During the awards Paulo said in Portuguese to the webcast fans online "it has always been my dream to win at Pipe in 12 ft conditions but I will take the win in 6-8ft waves just the same".

Congratulations to Paulo for the much deserved win and thank you to our sponsors Bodyglove Bodyboards, Pride and NMD for their huge support of this years event.

The IBA International Tour now moves to Brazil for event 2 from March 18 -23.

NB. Movement would like to extend their congratulations to the Hamburglar Paulo and all the Brazil nuts.

TAMARAMA BODYBOARD CLUB COMP RESULTS
22.2.08

Back on the 10th of March the second TBC comp was held. A bit of swell and a rip bowl on the shore making sure that this comp had better conditions than the last. A big turnout in the A division, the AAs a few less, with some in Hawaii, some nursing hangovers or broken parts.

A Division:
1st - Lanky
2nd - Cameron Scott
3rd - Andrew Milne
4th - Phin Gibson

AA Division:
1st - Lucien Alperstein
2nd - Chris Hamer
3rd - Jose Marquina
4th - Dan Barios

In the A division, Zac Panaretos took home the prized Little Gourmet Pizza voucher for highest scoring wave: a combo involving a 720, amongst other things.
Jose takes home the Little Gourmet Pizza prize in the AA division for the highest scoring wave in the comp, for the second time running second.

The next comp will be held on March 9. It'll start at 6, $5 to enter, and you're all welcome. Don't pull the "six is too early" line either, you pansies. Get real. Coffee or any energy drink is a substitute for sleep.

As always, a shout to those who support the club: Little Gourmet Pizza, Surf Culture Bondi Junction, Thurlow Fisher Lawyers and Consultants, Movement, BZ, Morey, NMD, VS, LMNOP, Churchill, Stealth, the Little Monopoly Man with his top hat and thick moustache, and the stellar constellation Orion.

DA BANZAI PIPELINE RESULTS BRA
21.2.08

The Pipe contest supported by Pride, NMD and Bodyglove was held today in a 3-4 feet west swell. It wasn't smoking Pipe. but it was contestable and tomorrow looks like it will build into an epic event with some solid swell expected.

There have been some Australian casualties early on:
Chad Jackson (not 20 foot), Chris Won Taloa (not Australian but a good guy to be nice about), Jason Finlay, Matt Young, Josh Garner (17 year old WA grom, made it through one), Max Arent-Highfield, Brad Hughes (made a few rounds, not 20 foot though), Eli Beach (had a cracker last year), Ewan Donnachie (is alergic to alcohol so it wasn't a hungover thing), Jose Marquina, Jones Russell, Paul Blaz and Tom Wilson (beaten by UK guy - ouch... a big hello to all our UK friends, please check issue 22 Gang before sending abuse).

Jake Stone (so hot right now) and Nick Perry (Hydro underdog) made it to round five before getting knocked.

Woo hoo Aussie youth.

Tomorrow morning (first thing Aussie EST) our following country-men will take to the beach to fuck shit up and hopefully bring home another Pipe title. These hopeful, hopefuls are:
Mitch Rawlins, Damien King, Dave Crowley (Movement Cook Island Grom Trip 06), Adam Leuhman (Westpect), Cade Sharp (Movement Rate Me/ Grom Trip 07, yep we pick 'em), Winny (Daddy W), Andrew Lester (Bede Durbridge Triple Crown style?), Michael Novy, Michael Chapple and Thom Robinson.

Whoever gets through round seven will face-off with the top 16 of the IBA. Dudes with names like Benny Player, Mike Stewart, you know.... all the big-wigs.

So take the day off, kick the feet up, lay down a Marley track and kick back at da Banzai Pipeline bra: www.ibatour.com/webcast

NEWS FROM THE HB STABLE
14.2.08

Good Times in the HB Stable.

Chris Wilson has been in HAWAAI but reckons "the waves were pretty bad, plenty of fun surfs at rocky point but only a handful of days at good pipe". He is now FREEZING HIS ARSE OFF in NYC.

Matt McArthur has taken his country style from the desert of CEDUNA to the "big city" of ULLADULLA and has already sampled the most photographed wave in the world and is RAVING about it.....If you see him kickin round say G'day.....

Nick Rubesaame is 5 days into his VIRGINAL Hawaiian trip and although "finding it hard to get waves" is hangin for the pipe comp to start.....should be interesting to see how the Young Sunny Coast kid goes.....

Brad HUGE Hughes has just re-signed with HB so is out there somewhere LIVING THE DREAM probably waiting for the waves to get above 20ft so he can go surfing....

The rest of the team is MIA....hopefully getting the job done....

HB is also starting to get shit together for the 2009 range..Should be some incredible things to come....

HB have also joined the craze of 2006 by getting a MYSPACE PAGE......

http://www.myspace.com/hbbodyboards

It is only in its infancy but is sure to GROW into a top 10.

TWENTY TWO
10.2.08

So we're here busting balls on our third Sunday in the office. Issue 22 is walking to the printers and it's looking pretty hot. Hot like Alicja, whose eye is pictured here (you'll get the whole rigsy in the issue). Stay tuned in the coming week for our clip and more BS.

In other news, Dave Hubbard flew over to Puerto Rico from a lame week of swell in Hawaii and scored pumping waves and some contest coin, check www.plasticpeopletrash.com for more deets.

MATTICK ENGAGED IN 4PLAY
7.2.08

4Play are glad to announce that South Coast charger, and all round good guy, Ryan Mattick has joined the team. 4Play shaper and team manager Reon Fisher reckons he’s amped to have Ryan come on board. “He compliments the team well with Kingy, Dallas and now Mattick. We have three totally different characters with three completely different surfing styles. Mattick has a deep knowledge of board design and the prototype of his coming Signature model looks insane.”

Mattick, equally stoked claimed “4Play has been the cutting edge brand in bodyboards since the turn of the century. To work on board design with Reon and ride alongside a childhood idol of mine in Kingy, and the new gen guys like Dallas, Tyge and Ben Hansen is amazing.”

The recent run of South Coast swells should see Mattick hooking into a few screamers on his new 4Play rides.

TAMARAMA BODYBOARD COMP THIS SUNDAY
6.2.08

Click the title above, the one that says "TAMARAMA BODYBOARD COMP THIS SUNDAY" to be taken to the TBC event page.

Here's from better days. No, it wasn't at the last comp. If you remember, a while ago we posted a little story about Tamarama local Corey Oliver and the ridiculously high number of babes he's, uhh, had sex with. Anyhow, here's the myth in flesh, at home during the festive season. Sixteen year-old Nick Bannehr behind the lens.

As someone else wrote:
"The second comp of the season will take place this Sunday the 10th of February. 6am sign up, $5 entry fee. we had a really good turn out last time so lets keep it going.
The rollers are expected to be high for this one as well so ditch your spin roll combo and pack your gaths....."

As per usual, the biggest combos in each division entitle the score-getter a free pizza from Little Gourmet.

Be there.

SMOKE N' A PANCAKE
4.2.08

http://www.bodyboarder.nl/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=84&view=next

Check the above link. It's from a DUTCH bodyboard site. Did anyone know the Dutch surfed? Like we thought it was all 'smoke and a pancake'...... But besides the fact there is actually Dutch bodyboarders out there with their own site, there is a cool article posted there from Surfing magazine in the 80s. It's written by a guy called Chris Carter. Chris Carter is probably better known for a little script idea he came up sometime after he wrote this story about Jack Lindholm. The idea was for a show called the X-Files.... heard of it?
