COMPANY THAT DOESN'T SUPPORT BODYBOARDERS, CROWNS BODYBOARDER WATERMAN OF THE YEAR...?
20.12.07

http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2007712140364

“I remember this day being one of the best second reef Pipe days in quite some time, as it was a big and quite consistent west swell. After a great day of waves I came in late that afternoon. After getting back to the house I was staying at I was relaxing and saw a big set. A few people got swept down the beach. The rip was especially strong due to the large west swell and didn't break up between the Pupukea and Ehukai breaks as it mostly does.
Two surfers made it to shore but the other didn't make it in. Soon he was waiving his arm in a really bad place towards the inside of Pupukea, which was very heavy. Unfortunately the guards had left. After surfing second reef that day I felt pretty confident that I could get out to this guy, and at least handle dunking waves if I needed to. I also felt that with fins and a bodyboard I was probably best suited to retrieve this person. It was getting late and the victim was quite a ways out and I was concerned that I would loose him once I got into the surf. After calling 911 I instructed my wife to walk in front of where he was with a large white towel so I could at least try to line up with him. When I reached the surfer he was panicked, very drained but conscious and I cautiously approached and tried to calm him down. Some joking around and light encouraging words seemed to work. I gave him my board and put my leash onto him so I wouldn't loose him. We started to head outward for clear water as I did not want to try to go in through the shore break in this area. He seemed to have caught his breath but unfortunately sets started to pump and were now peaking up and breaking on the outside of Pupukea. This is when I realized putting the leash on him might not have been the best idea. I told him I will try to dunk the board and to wait for my cue and try to dive as deep as he could. We got under some of it but pretty much got worked. I then took the leash off him and gave him my board and told him to wait again until I gave him the cue to dive deeper. He made it pretty cleanly although I got pushed back. I quickly tried to paddle out to him and coach him through the process again. This went on for a couple more waves and my distance from him was widening. Had the sets continued I might have lost him, but fortunately they subsided. I got back to him and, gave him back my board again and attached my leash to my foot so that I could swim and pull him in towards gums. My plan was to reattach the leash once I got him into the shore break at gums. Fortunately this is about when the ski showed up. “

NOMAD DECK SKIN INNOVATION

Nomad introduces new board technology to the F.S.D.

Nomad Bodyboards is proud to announce the introduction of new deck skin technology WATER BARRIER SKIN (WBS) to its 07/08 F.S.D. Ultimate model.

Water Barrier Skin (WBS) has been developed to increase the strength of deck skin of your board by heat laminating a high tensile strength film to the surface of bare deck foam skin.

This barrier provides protection from the elements your board is exposed to, sunlight, sea water, and sand. It also provides surface protection from cuts, punctures, and scratches by dispersing pressure from the rider and effectively prevents indentations to the surface of the bodyboard, reducing the level of wear and tear your board receives.

WBS provides structural stability as a rider flexes or torques the board. With a specially designed embossed pattern on the film, WBS also helps to provide added texture for improved grip. This texture gives the board a unique visual quality when light hits it that is unsurpassed in the bodyboard industry.

Chris James says “I’ve been riding the same WBS deck board every day for the last 4 months now and the best thing about it is my board still looks brand new. I rode it in Cloud 9 & Ireland and had great performance out of it. I recommend anyone giving it a go, it’s definitely the deck of the future”.

The new shipment of the Nomad F.S.D. Ultimate is landing in your nearest bodyboard stockist now. Be one of the first to hit the water on this patented technology.

BENNY PLAYER SECURES SECOND WORLD TITLE - LILY TAKES WOMEN'S VICTORY AT CONFITAL
10.12.07

Our man Benny Player took his second world title on Friday night. With a clear focus to win the tour this year, it was the man's sweetest victory to date. The webcast on confitalibatour.com spread the vision and commentary out to tens-of-thousands of homes around the globe, the waves a perfect, reef-slabbing 4 feet made for some solid ripping. Stand-outs other than BP were local Richard Diaz and Frenchie Pierre Louis-Costes who used the bowl and grinding pits to rack some nice rides. 2000 people lined the scafolding along the point of El Confital, deeming the inagural contest a success.

Benny Player then rode through to the final, webcasted on Saturday night against Uri Valadao from Brazil. Uri defeated Ben in the final with some tidy eight and nine point rides. Australian Lily Pollard took the womens, absolutely tearing up her opponents with her reef-skills honed at her local break, The Zone on the Central Coast.

Uri Valadao & Lilly Pollard win Confital…

Brazilian Bodyboarder Uri Valadao has won the last event of 2007 by defeating Australian Ben Player in the 30 minute final.

Uri defeated the new world champion with an amazing display of athleticism by busting out of the gates with a 9 point ride in the opening seconds. He then back it up with a deep tube, roll back flip combo that netted a 9.5.

Ben player never really got his rhythm and had to settle for a second.

“It’s hard to beat someone when they are on a roll like that. Nothings impossible when you are have a memorable heat” said Player who was stoked with his first goal of securing the World title.

Uri now has the distinguishing reputation as the first rider to defeat the new champ.

“Wow…I am so happy” said the humble Brazilian.

In the Women’s final Australia’s Lilly Pollard also notched up a 9.5 and then backed it up with a 6.5 to walk away with the winners cheque.

“Thanks to the locals for letting us use this amazing wave. This has been the best contest ever” said the smiling Pollard.

Brazil’s Mayla Venturin looked like the rider to beat all week but struggled in the 30 minute final and finshed with a 7.5 & 6.0.

To complement the show a World Tag team event was run and the “World” Team consisting of Mike Steawrt (USAH) Dave Hubbard (USAH) Mark McCarthy (ZFA) and Paloma Freyggang (Chile) was victorious and the regions best DK riders blitzed an exhibition for the massive crowd on the beach

Overall it was a fitting end to a great year of professional Bodyboarding and with extra events to be added to the IBA tour 2008 looks like being remembered as the year that Bodyboarding came back with an iron fist.

Muchas gracias to Roberto from Maldito Rodriguez for putting on one of the slickest shows in the history of the sport. The IBA are now working with this marketing company to develop the sport further in Europe and beyond.

NOTHING BEATS GETTING SECOND PLACE?
6.12.07

The above clip is some tidy work from www.confitalibatour.com a site dedicated to the world tour wrap-up taking place in the Canary Islands now. It's Amaury vs. BP for the world title and the contest organisers have pieced together TV adverts of the Neymara (Women's Champ already) and BP. Now we're taking a wild guess that the producers/ editors speak 'a la espanol' (spanish) and don't really know what Beeps is getting at in his voiceover. Which is, 'broken bones, cuts, yada, yada, yada, nothing's worse than the pain of coming second'. Except the ol' language barrier has cut it to, 'broken bones, cuts, hyper-extension, yada, yada, yada, nothing beats coming second'. Funny, cause BP hates losing anything. Let's hope this thing isn't some editing prophecy and BP takes the title.

ALL ROADS LEAD TO ROAM
1.12.07

NOMAD bodyboards is hosting the premiere for a new film, ROAM. The flick is packed full of high impact action and has been the talk of the Movement office these past few days, more for the fact that we haven't got to watch it. Our office junior, Lucien, had the audacity to watch it in the middle of the office whilst everyone else is labouring under the strain of deadline day. The few slithers of action we did get to take in has made the one copy available to us a heated point of discussion, as dibs on first view is being sold and traded like stocks on the ASX. Anyway, here are the details if you're in Victoria or are a diehard fan...

When: Friday December 7th
Time: 7.30 pm (BBQ) 8pm (Film Starts)
Where: Nomad Warehouse, Showroom 31 / 200 Canterbury Rd Bayswater VIC 3153 (enter via Bayfield Rd)

Cost: $10.00 per head

Special guest appearance by Chris James, Glen Thurston & Bryce Thurston

Ring Nomad for further details: 03 9720 4500 or contact@nomad.com.au

ADELAIDE BIG DAY OUT OFFICIALLY SOLD OUT

If you're living in South Oz and had plans for February 1 but no tickets then the bad news is that the Adelaide BDO has now joined almost every other capital city and SOLD OUT. If you are one of the unlucky South Australians now forced to either ebay or stealthly making friends in the recording industry then you should actually be feeling fortunate you don't live in NSW where they sold out in approximately 19 seconds or thereabouts.
