Monkey be gone
Long before a title showdown that briefly simmered at
Fronton there was another competition. This competition. Pipeline ’09, which
saw Ryan Hardy win his first crown – the second most important in world
bodyboarding behind the world title – and exorcise demons, monkeys and ghosts
of Christmases past.
Movement: As defending champ is there added pressure
or are you at ease with a victory secured?
Ryan Hardy: It’s definitely more a monkey off the back
feeling. I've got the win which is the biggest feat in bodyboarding short of
the world title so now I just want to surf some sick Pipe and ride some epic
waves.
Movement: Is it still strange for the riders to be
contesting Pipe as the first event?
Ryan Hardy: No, it's more familiar now because it has
been this way for a few years, although when you think back to it, watching the
title showdown at Pipe was the most intense and exciting thing bodyboarding ever
saw.
Movement: We've heard rumours of a Box Grand Slam
event next year, you must be bursting out of your wetsuit for that?
Ryan Hardy: I can't say enough about how epic that
would be. Not just to have a Grand Slam at Box, but to get a Grand Slam in Oz
and give the local talent a bigger chance on the world stage.
Movement: And what can we expect from the Hardy camp
this year?
Ryan Hardy: Ideally some solid contest showings and
results leading to a highly desired world title, some epic sessions in big
waves around Australia and whatever opportunity presents itself. Hopefully some
of my best performances yet while the iron is hot!

And you are correct non of the locals are supporting the event well thats typical and pathetic are there not some Hawaii boogers competing and why are your locals not supporting them at your home break. Bryan I say my friend you carry on sitting on the beach and wait for your turn and have a cup of shut the F%$k up until then. Oh Bryan I can tell you when was the last time you pulled a crowd to come see you do reverse 360's at PIPE.
