Put your name here

The smallest interactions are fraught with landmines when you’re dealing across languages. Misinterpretations, misguided assumptions. What we’re saying is we mislead you. We think. Last week we posted an intro to the Respect bodyboards’ competition, Put Your Name Here, that noted a prize for a rider and a videographer. That was wrong. There are prizes, it turns out, for the best rider featured in still photo format and the best rider featured in video format, so sorry videographers. Here’s Rui’s explanation: “About the contest description you did on the Movement webpage I think there has been a (misunderstanding). There will be a prize for the best featured rider on a photo (not for the photographer) and another prize for the best featured rider on a video resume (not for the videographer).”

Again, apologies.

Rui Ferreira

We also spoke to Rui about his reasoning behind the comp and whether it was one big marketing scam.

Movement: Is it just a marketing ploy, or do you really think you'll find the best young guys through this competition?

Rui Ferreria: One of our main focuses at Respect is to give the new generation the chance to be part of the spirit of a bodyboard company, to give grommets the opportunity to be the face of the company in the near future. Obviously, we’re also interested in entering the Aussie market, although we haven’t any distributor yet, we will be offering the interested shops a direct order system.

Movement: Why specifically for Australia?

Rui: Because I’m pretty sure this contest will find the very talented riders we’re looking for. I’d like to point that these two riders will have a big exposure both in Europe and Oz, as well as in the other media we work with.

Movement: The terms and conditions state the winning rider will get a $5k sponsorship, what will that actually entail? How integrated into the team will this person be?

Rui: Yes, the prize is $AU5000. This amount will be divided between sponsored hardware, material and clothing for the rider, and on the other hand to help with a surf trip. We can assure the grommets are coming strong, very strong, and that’s why we think they deserve all this.

Terms and conditions are here again.

The team you will join ...
