The perfect Smiths' tube

Posted Monday, September 28, 2009

BJ Brady shot these crisp little tubes with a macro, his illo work may not be incredible but we get the idea. Yes the pun on crisp was intentional.

TM Photo Takes A Day Off

Posted Tuesday, September 15, 2009

A little while ago Trent Mitchell left his job Photo Editor job at ASL to use his god given talent of taking photos. Like many other magic plastic box men he loves nothing more than to creep around taking photos and get tubed. Lately he's been winning awards all over and is off to India shortly for an all expenses shoot that would send these low life magazines to the gutter.

It gets worse, he surfs empty line-ups while we're all at work or school then posts them on youtube. TM on the Goldy.

Semi-Naked In A Sarong, We Celebrate The Tungstens

Posted Thursday, September 10, 2009

Some years back - when Clinton was denying blow jobs from White House interns and people still cared about Tom Carroll - a man named Eric Regnard strolled the path of Plantation Village, a backpacker's hostel on the North Shore of Hawaii. He wore nothing but a blue sarong and a wooden beaded necklace hung lowly around his neck. Photography was still romantic and a man with such passion and a French accent could get away with anything. Even a shirtless stroll in a sarong.

Cradling his Nikon camera loaded with 36 moments of B&W film, Eric could have a woman's top lifted within minutes: 'Wee, wee, you vont to take your top off, so maybe we can show ze beauty of your body?' It was in the name of art and for the Tungstens (brother of Eric, Ian is his business/ photography partner) it still is.

Being one of the most credible contributors to our magazine with their incredible passion for the perfect portrait and surf shot composition, they've been a true asset in capturing a unique and glamourous facet of bodyboarders over the last fifteen years. Think issue 11 of Movement, their perfect B&W portraits shot in large format of Chris Won, Ben Player, Dave Winchester and co in Hawaii.

No surprise in their latest award then, an Honorary Mention in the International Photography Awards one of the most prestigious annual events globally, for underwater Polaroids of a naked (yes for ze beauty) woman with stingrays floating above.

We salut you Tungstens. Merci for ze many great contributions.

NB. The Regnard brothers are actually from Mauritius, a French Island off the coast of Africa.

Thom & Dallas Grom Bash, The Aftermath

Posted Tuesday, August 18, 2009

Supported By: SWS, I Am None, Zion, Boom pod casts, Le Boogie, GU, Penguin Books and Movement Mag, Raising money for JAAGO.

Competitors for the Grom Bash were greeted to blue skies and clean 3ft peaks at Kiama Wedge on Saturday 15th August. With a years sponsorship on the line the competition was fierce. Early round stand outs were Taylor Brockman, Jacob Lee, Liam Tomkins and Shane Marsetti. The good conditions made for some great viewing.

Before the final a 30min Expression Session was held seeing Dallas Singer and Thomas Robinson going for it in the wedging conditions. Dallas blasting a big air reverse and Thomas back flipping off every wedge that came his way.

The waves continued to pump for the final and a traveling hump back whale even called in to check out some of the action. In the end 17year old Todd McCorie walked away with the year’s sponsorship, winning the final in the last minute with a big full rotation air reverse. 2nd place went to Taylor McAlary, 3rd Corey Daglish and 4th Connor Nelson.

Dallas commented “some of the surfing was phenomenal, the groms were tearing. Todd ripped all day so I think he will be a great new member to the team, I’m looking forward to surfing with him.” The event raised over one thousand dollars for the JAAGO charity organization.

JAAGO Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to the betterment of underprivileged and poverty-stricken children of Bangladesh. Founded in April 2007 in Dhaka by a group of young students, it focuses mainly on battling malnutrition and illiteracy in children and on rehabilitating them to better environments and social conditions. JAAGO is currently directed to conducting activities to provide more long-term and sustainable benefits to children who are under the poverty line. If you would like to donate to Jaago please do at www.jaago.com.bd A huge thanks needs to go out to all the event sponsors, riders and everyone that helped out on the day. -4Play. *All images by www.philgallagher.com

The French Connection, Eric Gamez

Posted Thursday, August 13, 2009

We received this from Eric Gamez, a pro rider from France. The Vimeo clip shows the guys getting freaky at a river wave somewhere. To be honest, it's not the craziest clip we've posted but the tube perspective image is amazing, so thanks Eric.

The Good Meeting

Posted Monday, August 10, 2009

And it didn't disappoint this year either. Jose and Asha's duel birthday party at The Eastern this weekend went down once again as one of the best parties of the year. To capture some of the more 'safe' moment, Nick Bannehr played Cobra Fake and roamed the party in custom T, snapping people, dancing and girls legs.

Shteelwool bitches!!! Soo much went down and it was all over in a blink...drinking, binging, tuning, dancing, talking shit, screaming, posing, drinking...the room had such an epic energy with everyone elagantly wasted so a big thanks to all the friends and biatches that came in. The after party went well into Sunday with us all being on lockdown with the City to Surf. Things got even funnier. One of the boys ended up nude in a park to salute the sun, touched a guy's pants to see if he had really pissed in them, fought of would be attackers with a broom and used the police as a siver service taxi...as for the guy that pissed his pants and ended up in a room under the house full of dirt...your binging skills are nowhere near as good as your chefing skills....Jono wants free calamari for life! If I sent you an invite and you brushed it...tough titties. Next years one is already been arranged in my tweaked head so if you get the call up you know what to expect...til then...slang dick; fuck a ho!!! PS: In a very fragile state put myself through the moive, :The Notebook" yesterday to try and put me to sleep...rookie move on mybelf, that shit made me shed a couple!

One hell of a celebration! Good friends, good flow, energy and goddesses a plenty. I think everyone has a few stories off mayhem and hilarity for the night/ morning... day. - Toby player.. nude flower child or broomstick gladiator? - Did Toinz join the Bondi Iceberg morning swim crew without telling anyone? . - what frequency do you need to be on to understand Jose's Jacket... a.m. f.m. J.M.? - do grown men with tattoos need nappies? How did Chad Waldron end up running in the city to surf the next day? Questions with lost answers. Happy birthday again legens!

Well there's not much left to say after Jose and Buntings comments but it was an amazing night! So many funny but blurry memories.... Big thanx to Jono Joyce for keeping the dream alive with an all time after party back at the vaucluse cliff top mansion... Things got weird and funnier as the hours went by. There is rumors of summer time bash to battle sat nights mayhem, I for one cant wait! Till then.....

Movement's First Photo Annual Coming

Posted Thursday, August 06, 2009

We've been plugging away on our photo annual for some weeks now. Hitting every photographer we know for their best and whipping our slack-jawed designers into motion. We've had main-man Murray Bell working some magic and called in the work of a former Movement designer Nick Rudenno of Dik Studio for some titles.

Overall it's looking like one of our best projects to date. Less concern for editorial relevance and just pure love for the shot. A nice headspace to operate. You'll be able to grab it in November, it'll be the fanciest booklet in your newsagencies with all the fancy and expensive print extras and don't fret OS friends, you'll be able to purchase here or in B&N in the States or select outlets in Europe a little later.

Be Sweet To Get A Run On The Site Yew

Posted Wednesday, August 05, 2009

With all the battles of the publishing world, it's really nice to receive an email from a kid like Josh Househam who asks for so little and gives so much.

"hey guy's im a grommet from central coast i got a couple shots attached i've gotten over the weekend and past weekends some crowley and few other guys would be sweet to get a run on the site yew"

It's that grommet enthusiasm that makes the bodyboarding crew such an entertaining lot. We enjoyed one particularly rude comment from a reader named, 'Hedge C*nt' who gave us this magic earlier in the week, signing off once again with a 'yew' like what he said prior to it was quite acceptable and light-hearted.

"charlie holt literally sucks the biggest romper stomper and loves some black thumper up the koit action yeww"

We're not trying to encourage that kind of derogatory commenting but come on, it's a bit funny isn't it? Maybe not if you're the family and friends of Charlie Holt, but hey, he's the ripper on the site that everyone knows about so whatever right? Right? Hmmm, maybe not. Yew.

Not sure who the above is, maybe leave a comment and claim it mystery dude.

Huge Movement Logos Pollute '08 Shark Island Event

Posted Thursday, July 30, 2009

We stumbled upon these images a good friend of ours took at the '08 IBA Shark Island Event in Cronulla. We were media partners with the IBA guys and that allowed us to make a huge orange logo and float it around the event.

An unfortunate result was the waves were dwarfed by the fuck-off logo which was graciously held by Nick Bannher and Cam Danzey, Movement Cadets of the highest order.

We'd like to send out a belated thanks to our friends at the IBA and 4Play who helped us create the monstrous webcast branding tool.

It's also probably a good time to let you know the Nomad Shark Island Challenge has been put on hold for another two weeks to enable the final to run in waves bigger than our logo.

Above, the cadets, a yacht and our logo.

The children of Mike Stewart gawk at some salty foam.

The dudes that started this mag, check out the logo they created (and paid to have in foam form).

Think Its Time To Ditch Your Camera

Posted Friday, July 17, 2009

Seems that the iPhone is about to take over another device. Factron Quattro have made this cover type setup that goes over your phone, that gives you the ability to add lenses etc. Download some new software from the Apps store and you replaced your sony Cybershot camera.
