Final Day at Ferrol, Spain.

The 4^th event on the E5’09 European circuit went down today in small but contestable peaks at Doninos Beach, Ferrol.

Organizers once again planned the day around the best conditions and a 1pm start saw the semi’s surfed in front of a solid Sunday afternoon crowd.

Semi 1 pitted the inform Brazilian Lucas Nogueira against the consistant Aussie Dave Winchester.

Winny set a blistering pace from the get-go and Lucas could never make up the lost ground and had to settle for =3^rd.

Next up was the Spanish connection of Christian Perez and Guilemo Cobo

Perez is a crowd favorite, (Cobo hails from the Canary Islands), and the crowd were going wild on every wave he paddled for. The lead changed hands several times but when the hooter went Perez had secured a spot against Winny.

Into the DK final and early favorite Ardiel Jiminez (Canary Isl) stuggles to find the winning waves while the other three exchange blows.

Dave Hubbard (Hawaii) always looked the man to beat despite challenges from local hero YiYi Obenza and Dave Winchester.

The Men’s final was a 30 minute affair with Winny once again getting an early start with a nice left that he combo-ed to the beach. He was surfing to the criteria. Fast with clean transitions and lots of variety and all in the pocket. Perez had a few moments of glory but Dave Winchester was the most consistent competitor over the four days and almost claimed the daily double with a first and second in both divisions

“This will replace one of my other results and get me a bit closer to where I want to be” said Winny

“Its still all going to come down to the last event at Confital in December”

“I just want to thank my wife for sitting on the beach for 4 days with my little girl Coco” said the proud father.

The IBA E5’09 crew now pulls up stumps and hit Peniche for the final event on the circuit.
