The National Boxer

Posted Monday, July 13, 2009

This is the fourth album from The National and is representative of time spent refining a craft and sound, resulting in an exemplary album. At least six songs on this are worthy of singles. The opener, Fake Empire, is the most different (and will be the first you’ll love) for the piano arrangement while the rest are, on the surface, more or less guitar driven indie songs but raised above the standard by the lyrics and vocals of Matt Berninger. The perfect accompaniment for a frosty winter night and a strong drink.
