Movement Mag

Ready to rumble

Posted Monday, March 01, 2010

Last week we were treated to a preview of Thrash’d, Todd Barnes’ new film and the follow up to last year’s Thrash, that will come free with the next issue of Movement magazine. It is 83 minutes of visual bliss, both for its surfing and editing. 83 minutes will sound long in an age of altered attention spans but upon assessment we couldn’t note a single section that should be cut. Attached is the teaser and the prem poster.

In my mind Todd Barnes is the best Bodyboarding film producer of our time! I'm so stoked someone with such talent is making films for us. Films that are unique, entertaining, inspiring and interesting. These are the types of films you can chuck on years down the track and be amped to watch. There aren't many Bodyboarding films I can say that about. For me different films like The Joker 2, Tension 1 and The Hardlyfe have kept me stoked because I dig variety. I guess everyone has different taste but people shouldn't hate on what a persons style or taste is like, but get stoked on the passion and commitment they put in to make something for other people to enjoy. Good on ya Todd Barnes for putting heart and soul into what you do. Some looser fitting jeans might be nice though in your clothing range, I don't have a vagina and won't pay hundreds of dollars to have one. Emo faggggsssss harden up, show some love! haha

just another stab at an artsy fartsy bodyboarding vid, flogging the horse right into the ground. make a vid that attracts more than indie frothing fashionistas. make a vid that hypes people to surf.

I think the faux 1080i slow mo is the only thing holding this back for me.. cant imagine it being projected onto a cinema screen, when its barely dvd quality! The whole composer, and 5.1 audio mix thing is definitely cool though, its never been done in bodyboarding so well done in that regard. But please.. use the money movement paid for this to invest in some new camera gear!for me sharp focus on the rider and every detail of the spray, water tones etc is what really makes slow mo footage interesting.

looks as sick as the first one. Whatever scene you're into you can't front on good, (albeit different) style. The option of fast forward is there for the impatient among us!! Bright, over exicited shit was rinsed in the late nineties early 2000's so refreshing to see a different spin on things. nice one Todd, done it again mate.

How is Todd affording to give his time and project away for free???

w3 - who says its for free? add a few more dollars onto the shelve price, or assume that the magazine will sell x amount extra copies of that issue because of the added dvd.. agree a figure, multiply it by the amount of magazines that will be distributed. Now approach sponsors, the dvd is going to reach as many people as a print advertisement normally costs, and will offer the brand potentially more exposure than a print add would (fair to assume most people will watch a good dvd more times than they will read a magazine). Agree on a price with sponsors, add it to the amount movement offered for it and Todd has a total. This may or may not have been how it went down, but im assuming it was a similar scenario. Rumours have been flying around about that amount being $40k. People shouldnt be surprised by this, everyone knows how much work goes into creating a bodyboarding film.. Hopefully more companies start pushing video based advertising.. Good movies on the big screen with decent budgets are whats going to take bodyboarding to the masses
