The Awkward Lean

Posted Friday, June 18, 2010

Its origins are murky but it’s undeniable that the awkward lean is now pervasive. The well-rehearsed tilt of mock surprise favoured by beautiful women everywhere is celebrated here.

Novy breaks back

Posted Tuesday, June 08, 2010

Ex-Northern Beaches pro Matt Withaar broke his back surfing on the South Coast on the same day that Bondi stand up Kobi Graham broke his surfing Cape Solander. Now, a mere week later, we just got news that Michael Novy has broken his back surfing Indies on the Central Coast this morning.

Initial reports are that he’s broken his three lowest vertebrae but not his spinal cord, which means he’ll walk again. More news as it comes to hand.

Sponsored by stealth, NMD and Billabong .. Pro is kind of blurred lines in bodyboarding world but surely this comp isnt intended for someone like that. Meh he probably didnt even ask to have this entered.

You stupid and jelous people are making a war of that GAME! You don't understand what bodyboard is all about. Bodyboard does not need you. You should not read those pages, every time there's something wrong with every rider. It's not because you're ripping at YOURIDING that in the real life your able to do the same things. Give up cunts you should not be out there wasting waves and pollute the ocean.

Charlie rips he has done well for himself has great sponsers and is successful....it is questionable about his entry within the contest as these comps are more for pushing the amateur riders into the spot light ... but if this is just a straight out open event ill agree with Ben who doesnt wana see people busting out pro is just a word we are all humans and no beta then each other some of us have just worked harder and done suceeded others .... lots of creeps get on these blogs it doesnt mata wat u think of charlie personally he is a good rider and that invert was sick ... respect bro

Bang!Whimper

Posted Tuesday, June 01, 2010

It always surprises us to hear from bodyboarders in New York. In our minds they shouldn’t have time to surf between blow, models and blowing models. But the scene should be praised for their dedication and the flavour they bring the sport. Here’s their latest offering, Bang!Whimper, which the creator Mark Miller defined as:

A hamburger, a Model T, and a blanket filled with homicide. A Moonshine soaked collar, high as a kite, stumbling within the footsteps of our forefathers. Raised in helter skelter under the red white and blue umbrella and still seeing stars. Stars close enough to destroy because we keep getting higher, literally, under the ever growing filth pile that is American history. Wallow in the land of the free range circus, take part in the communel demise of the present tense, and sneak in a moment to enjoy your filthy selves.

Translation: cool tees, silk screen posters and other items.

HAHAHA! no need for this artsy self indulgence shit. Its ok to be stylish but in no way should the majority of bodyboard fashion become to serious and obsessed with its self. Sure I understand that as bodyboarders we try to create an image that reflects our individualism... but geez sometimes it goes 'just a bit' over the top. Keep the clothes fresh and fun don't complicate things. After all most of your style should be saved for the water.

A summer in Europe

Posted Tuesday, June 01, 2010

Under the pretence of gaining experience with Europe’s best shapers Jarrod Gibson is chasing deliciously tanned Euro tail around Portugal while we shiver in our poorly lit work environments. He explains otherwise:

“I’m heading of to Portugal to shape for REFRESH boards for a two month stint to work with some of Europe’s finest riders and to pretty much experience the whole Euro summer thing. I will be back on Oz soil mid September and ready to go for the remaining season at home. Been hearing some pretty crazy rumours etc so I thought I’d just clear it up and let everyone know that its just a new challenge I’m looking for and it's the best thing I could do for my career.”

Hey James, To answer your questions, I have shaped Joe a quiver of boards for the duration that I will be away. We have been working on some pretty cool new templates which will be available in stores soon. But like I said, he has a stack ready to carry him through until I come home. Same deal with QCD mate, Todd is steering the ship solo and has it under control. I work for the brand as a sub-contractor so of course with an offer to shape in Portugal for a few months I was always going to take it! Cheers, Jarrod.
