Brenden Newton is the envy of kids everywhere having won the Put Your Name Here competition to become the newest member of the Respect team. As the company said, “(We) decided it was time to look for some representation in Oz, the cradle of the world bodyboarding panorama. So we launched the Put Your Name Here contest in Australia in order to find the most outstanding riders out there. We received a lot of emails with footage, photos and CVs from guys all over Australia and surprisingly Brenden’s was one of them. He was looking for a sponsor and we were looking for somebody like him (very hard to find). No doubt it was kind of a miracle. He was all we were looking for: he’s got the talent, the potential, the courage, the style, the charisma … everything.”

The first three rounds of the Turbo bodyboards
Pipeline Pro presented by Body Glove ran yesterday in less than desirable
conditions. As the day progressed and the wind cleaned up some big scores were
delivered. Clear standouts for the day were Australians Jase Finlay and Drew
Innocend, progressing from the trials and now to round four. There is still
three full days of competition left, with a half day of DK and bodysurfing. Be
sure to log onto ibaworldtour.com for the live broadcast of the event this
Monday (Tuesday in Australia!) Today has been a nice lay-day courtesy of small
waves and the guys at Turbo hosting a ridiculous amount of free beers last
night from the events other sponsor, Miller Beer. I caught a few quick words
with BP last night who said Tuesday might even be too big. Either way, the
final rounds are going to be held in big waves and will be a show to behold!
