If You’re Not Bodyboarding You Should Be Listening To …

Posted Monday, June 29, 2009

Neutral Milk Hotel In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

It’s sacrilegious how underappreciated this late-90s album is, and will remain, but I can sleep soundly at night wrapped in the knowledge I got it; which is just recognition of how hard this album is to get, lost as it is between the heaviest guitar and searching hymns, all contributing parts to a harrowing story about Anne Frank and World War II that is Marquez’s magical realism mixed with Hemingway’s penchant for war. It’s beautiful and sad but not sentimental because it’s chaotic, raw indie rock. With only a few live releases and little chance of anything new this album is both damned to anonymity and deserving of its cult idolisation.

Scott Needs A New Board

Posted Monday, June 29, 2009

You decide whether he deserves a new ride.

Here’s the deal: Scott emailed us with a hard luck story, the kind that is generally depressing, causes our brow to furrow and our mind to wander along lines of ‘what the fuck does this kid want?’ Anyway, it’s hard work being bitter so we’re handing it over to you. After the recent Bali board test that’s featured in issue 29 (on-shelves now) we’ve got a few test craft leftover and might possibly be so generous as to send one to young Scott (at his own expense of course) but the final decision will rest on the verdict of you, dear reader, by using the pretty little comment function located beneath this article. Remember, play nice kids.

Scott writes: "Hey guys just writing to you with the worst luck story ever heard. Six months ago I got myself a new QCD board, was a great board until a surfer managed to run it over destroying it for good. Soon after that I bought another QCD, which arrived one week ago. I managed to score some onshore waves during this week and today another stand up ran me over destroying it on its third surf. I attatched some photos of the damage. Pretty devastating but I’ll just be saving up and getting another QCD made up and hopefully turn this horror winter around."

No don't give him shit - if he hasn't learnt to duck dive surfers on two boards you can be sure a third will suffer a similar fate

How would you feel if it had have been you, Movement run your story on their page, you get all excited, go look and a bunch of ignorant people are writing you off. Some people need to grow up. Had the same thing happen to me in crowded surf at Byron. I floated over an approaching wave, and a surfer behind me duckdived through it ending up with the nose of his board piercing straight through my board. Sometimes there is no dodging it. Give this bloke the board. Especially since you have given hope that you might send him one.

Give the man a board! He's probably been crying himself to sleep over the loss of not one, but two beautiful customs. Restore some stoke to the water, it'll make everyone happy.

P Rod Makes His Own Park

Posted Friday, June 26, 2009

Things to buy for men who have everything.

Nike SB Skateboarder Paul Rodriguez has made his own skatepark in Pacoima, California. Wondering when our day will come when Rawlins, Hardy and Player will make their own wave parks? Anyone got some cash laying around that wants to back that idea?

Check Nike Skateboarding for more details.
