Stop four of the pro bodyboarding tour will see a field of sixty professionals from across Australasia and South Africa travel to the Fleurieu Peninsula.

 

The event, in its fifth year and boasting a four star rating, stars the Knights Beach wedge, one of the most iconic bodyboarding waves in the world.  Waves surge from deep water onto a shallow rocky sand bar, then rebounds off an adjacent rock wall that forms a very heavy wedging wave.

 

The Heatworks Pro has always been a pivotal event on the Aussie Tour, with many winners of the event going on to become the Australasian Pro champion. Surfing South Australia’s Events Manager Tim Doman is wrapped to be bringing the event back to South Australia for the fifth year in a row.

 

“The event has really become a staple part of the Aussie Tour and we love having all the interstate guys over to surf our wave, it really helps to inspire our up and coming riders,” said Tim.

 

The event gives the perfect opportunity for South Australia’s aspiring bodyboarders to mix it with their favourite bodyboarding idols.

 

“Each year we have drawn some of the worlds best bodyboarders to the event including Dave Winchester, Mitch Rawlins and Jake Stone.

 

“I think the quality of the field is testament to the event but also the great wave that we have here in our backyard,” said Tim.

 

With just a two-day waiting period to run the event, surfers must compete in whatever the ocean dishes up, however for four years straight the event has been held in near perfect Knights conditions, so contest organisers are hoping for five times lucky.

As one of the world´s most prestigious bodyboarding magazines (Bodyboarding is still around, right?) we have finally arrived at one of the premium locations – EUROPE! Not premium for surf, or for holidays as much, just premium because it’s the birthplace of premium goods. High end collectibles. High end disposables. They all came from Europe. And now we’re back there, being distributed by LOGINTERGRAL.COM (caps cos they’re premium). So they will be distributing the magazine to Spain and the Canary Islands, where they will be flowed to newsagencies. Negotiations are still continuing in France, Portugal and England so don’t start shaking down your counter clerk just yet.

After three days, several sessions, four-hundred write-offs and a hefty backlog of kilometres, the Movement Grom Trip has finally come to a close.

 

The sleep-deprived lads were shipped further North on Sunday morning to score a few hours worth of Newcastle’s offshore peaks, while photographer Shad worked the angles till the locals decided we’d had enough and sent us packing.

 

The afternoon provided us with some fun bows around the Central Coast, and the four hopefuls proved to this uncoordinated journalist that the future of bodyboarding is in safe hands.

 

Despite our drive through the epicentre of gridlock hell – cheers, Hornsby, we won’t miss you and your shithouse roads) we managed to drop little Lewy Finnegan to the airport in time, while Strachan, Mcrorie and Brockman were left to their own devices at Kings Cross station.

‘Big-ups’ to the Sundowner Tiona for housing us like kings, and El Shad and his housemates for our short stay in the North Avoca mansion.

We’re experiencing a slow bandwidth and apologise for the belated entry. Late posts a-plenty, so we’ll jump straight into it.

Despite their pre-pubescent lack of direction, the winning foursome (Taylor Brockman, Todd Mcrorie, Sam Strachan and Lewy Finnegan) successfully made their way to Movement HQ by mid-morning on Friday. MM’s editor-in-chief shook up the timid lads before we said bon voyage to Sydney aboard our faithful sedan; sans trimmings…kids don’t care for rims.

Central Coast photographer Shad met us mid-meal before we journeyed further north. The waves, unfortunately, weren’t cooperating, and after a couple of spot checks we drove to Forster in search of some underage females and luxury barbecue meats (thankyou, Movement credit card).

Sleep was on the agenda post-feed. We bunked up at the Tiona Sundowner and hit the pillow early. The charts looked promising for some fun waves on Saturday.

Said “waves” didn’t eventuate this morning, but the lack of swell couldn’t stop the testosterone from flaring as the four hopefuls went to town on the lacklustre surf, psyching each other out amongst their DIY dropknee comp.

We’ve seen a blip on the charts around the Central Coast for tomorrow, and have pumped it back down just in time to drop the groms off to a local house party to let off some steam. They weren’t invited, but that’s how shit goes when you’re the best kids in the business.
